Edward M. Powell

My Brother’s Keeper Boston Advisory Board

Edward M. Powell brings over 20 years of experience in the private and not-for-profit sectors in a career spent working to improve the lives of young people through violence prevention, education and employment.

Ed is the Vice President for community Engagement at the Justice Resource Institute (JRI) His work focuses on building community relationships that allow JRI to bring its trauma informed programming to neighborhoods affected by violence. He was recently appointed the Executive Director of the JRI program-STRIVE Boston. STRIVE Boston serves chronically unemployed adults of all ages who come from the most underserved communities to help them realize their potential to find and keep jobs that promise sustainable livelihoods and personal growth. STRIVE Boston also operates a job-readiness program, STRIVE FORWARD Juvenile Justice Initiative, to recruit and enroll at-risk young adults, ages 16 to 24, providing them with workforce development training and an array of necessary services that they may not otherwise know about.

Prior to JRI, Ed was the Executive Director of StreetSafe Boston a nationally acclaimed youth violence intervention initiative of the Boston Foundation. Before, StreetSafe, Ed was at the Boston Private Industry Council, which is Boston’s workforce board. At the PIC, he served as the Deputy Director. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Director of the PIC, Powell’s tenure at the PIC included almost a decade as the Director of school-to-career programs.

Ed is a graduate of Delaware State University with a B.S. in Marketing. He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University Sawyer School of Business.  He is a 2013 Alumnus of The Partnership Inc. Next Generation Executive program as well as a 2007 Alumnus of Boston University School of Management Institute of Non profit Management and Leadership program.
