Boston's National Bike to Work Day Festival 2023

We plan to hold our annual party on Friday, May 19, 2023. Save the date!

Join a convoy, or just show up for the fun. Going to work after the event is optional. 😉

CONVOYS

On Bike to Work Day, you can join a bike commuter convoy from one of dozens of locations throughout the Boston metro area. Guided convoys with experienced ride leaders will follow a fixed schedule and route and finish together in Downtown Boston. 

FESTIVAL

Join us any time between 7 and 9 a.m. We'll arrange some breakfast snacks and coffee. Stop by tents and tables to learn about local businesses and organizations that support our community of cycling in the Boston region.

On May 20, 2022, we’ll host a big party for cyclists in Downtown Crossing.

Convoys

On Bike to Work Day, you can join a bike commuter convoy from one of dozens of locations throughout the Boston metro area. Guided convoys with experienced ride leaders will follow a fixed schedule and route and finish together in Downtown Boston. 

Festival

Join us any time between 7 and 9 a.m. We'll arrange some breakfast snacks and coffee. Stop by tents and tables to learn about local businesses and organizations that support our community of cycling in the Boston region. 

Registration

Registration is free and optional. By registering, we can reserve a free t-shirt for you and help you join a convoy from your neighborhood. T-shirts may be available after the event for people who did not register.

2021 Enchanted Trolley Tour: Day 3

Boston continues the festive tradition of lighting holiday trees in Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, East Boston, the North End, and South Boston.

For the 25th year, the Mayor's Enchanted Trolley Tour will continue the festive tradition of lighting holiday trees while bringing holiday spirit to children across Boston. The event is sponsored by Bank of America, and includes visits with Santa, tree lightings and more.

On the third day of the 2021 Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour, the trolley will be stopping at the following locations:

  • 1 p.m. - M Street Park, South Boston
  • 2 p.m. - Beach Street and Harrison Avenue, Chinatown
  • 3 p.m. - Paul Revere Mall, North End
  • 4 p.m. - Thompson Square, Charlestown
  • 5 p.m. - Maverick Square, East Boston
  • 7 p.m. - Adams Corner, Dorchester

Bike to Work Day Festival 2020

Reason for cancellation: We are postponing this year's festival. We hope to have a new date soon!

Boston’s National Bike to Work Day Festival celebrates National Bike to Work Day and is our way of saying, “Thanks for riding your bike today.” We think it’s important to celebrate everyone who rides in Boston, and we want to make it fun for experienced and new bike commuters.

* Please note that this year Boston's National Bike to Work Day Festival celebration has been moved to Pemberton Square.

On Bike to Work Day, you can join a commuter convoy as it rides through one of dozens of locations throughout the Boston metro area. These convoys are guided by experienced ride leaders and follow a fixed schedule and route. Everyone finishes together at Pemberton Square! Because you rode your bike, you’ll get a free breakfast and coffee amid an expo at Pemberton Square. Join a convoy, or just show up for the fun at Pemberton Square. Going to work after the event is optional.

Registration is free but it ends on Tuesday, May 12, at 5 p.m. We encourage you to register so we know to expect you. It will also help us ensure that we have enough food and free t-shirts for everyone. Breakfast is only for cyclists, so please be prepared to show us your bike, helmet, or Bluebikes key.

Children's Winter Festival 2022

The Children's Winter Festival returns to the Boston Common!

Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department present the annual Children's Winter Festival on the Boston Common Parade Ground on Thursday, February 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This family school vacation event is hosted in partnership with the Highland Street Foundation and L.L. Bean. The free and open to all festival will feature music, giveaways, various winter attractions, treats, and crafts.. Additional support is provided by the Boston Globe, Dunkin’, Xfinity, and Soxcessful.

The festival will feature treats, promotions, and giveaways from Dunkin’, L.L. Bean, the Boston Globe, Cabot Cheese, and Soxcessful. Attractions include a funhouse maze, the Snowzilla Jr. inflatable winter-themed slide, a Ski Lift photo op, an inflatable curling lane, All Star Challenge obstacle course, rides in the park on the Trackless Train, family dance classes, and hands-on games including Connect Four, Skee Ball, cornhole, horseshoes, Jenga, chess, and field games facilitated by Knucklebones.

2021 Copley Square Tree Lighting

Please join us in celebrating our annual tree lighting at Copley Square.

The City of Boston, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and the Friends of Copley Square welcome the holidays with the annual Copley Square Tree Lighting starting at 5 p.m.  

This free event will feature appearances by Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer along with musical performances by vocalist Ackeem Hill, the Boston Children’s Chorus, the Boston Pops Esplanade Brass Ensemble, and Berklee College of Music’s own Esperanza Delgado.

Additional support provided by AT&T Mobility and H.P. Hood, LLC. Light refreshments provided by H.P. Hood, LLC. Event production partners include Boston Properties, Encore Global, and Fairmont Copley Plaza.

Other 2021 holiday celebrations hosted by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department include the lighting of the trellis at Christopher Columbus Park on the Boston Harbor waterfront November 22, the lighting of the ship in Martin’s Park at the Children’s Wharf Harborwalk on November 27, and the Boston Common Tree Lighting followed by the lighting of the trees on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall on December 2. The arrival of Boston’s official 2021 Christmas tree, a 48-foot white spruce tree donated by L’Arche Cape Breton of Orangedale, Nova Scotia, will be celebrated on Boston Common at approximately 11 a.m. on November 18.
